POLS6410 The Study of Comparative Politics
This course surveys the major approaches and issues in the study of comparative politics. The material attempts to provide a broad historical and intellectual context for the field, capture changes the field has undergone, and familiarize students with leading perspectives and debates (as well as the dynamics that have shaped them). The point will be to explore different approaches to the study of comparative politics by examining the theoretical underpinnings of the work, the methods utilized by each tradition, the kind of evidence brought to bear, and the nature of the disputes that this clash of academic opinions produces.
Note: in Fall 2018, I will be teaching the first part of this course on "Concepts and Approaches"
